The Position
The Mission-Critical Electrical Operations Manager will serve as the senior authority responsible for overseeing all electrical operations at the High-Performance Compute Center (HPCC) and the on-site power infrastructure that supports it. This role provides leadership and direction to a team of subject matter experts (SMEs) and contracted service provider operators, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all electrical infrastructure.
The Electrical Operations Manager will ensure compliance with operational procedures, regulatory requirements, and Owner standards across the critical electrical infrastructure systems, including medium and low-voltage distribution, switchgear, UPS systems, substations, and integration with the power plant station. This position requires strong technical expertise, the ability to manage a specialized electrical team, and the capacity to coordinate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and cross-functional partners in a high-availability environment.
Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage a department of electrical SMEs and contracted service provider operators.
- Manage staffing plans, shift schedules, and escalation protocols to ensure 24/7/365 operational readiness.
- Promote training, cross-training, and professional development to maintain deep bench strength and reduce knowledge gaps.
- Ensure all team members maintain required regulatory and site-specific qualifications through recurring training, drills, and qualification programs.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and technical excellence.
- Oversee day-to-day operation of HPCC electrical systems infrastructure.
- Ensure safe and reliable operation of switchgear, UPS systems, substations, and distribution systems.
- Direct preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to maximize uptime.
- Maintain and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), one-line diagrams, and operational logs.
- Ensure compliance with all Owner standards, NFPA 70E, OSHA, NERC, and other applicable electrical safety codes and regulations.
- Direct implementation of lockout/tagout, energized work, and arc flash safety programs.
- Conduct routine audits, equipment testing, and system reliability reviews.
- Lead root cause analyses and corrective action planning following electrical events.
- Manage the electrical interface between the HPCC and onsite power plant.
- Coordinate with power generation teams to balance load, maintain reliability, and optimize efficiency.
- Ensure electrical systems can support phased expansion and scalability of the HPCC.
- Provide oversight on operational changes, switching procedures, and outage coordination.
- Establish and monitor KPIs for electrical reliability, safety performance, maintenance compliance, and incident response.
- Deliver regular operational reports to Owner leadership, including availability metrics and maintenance trends.
- Oversee vendor/contractor performance, ensuring SLA compliance and quality of service.
- Lead annual reviews of department performance, staffing needs, and system reliability.
- Collaborate with Operations, Controls, Mechanical, and Security teams to support integrated site reliability.
- Drive continuous improvement in electrical operations through technology upgrades, training, and process refinement.
- Participate in cross-functional planning for expansions, retrofits, and upgrades.
- Represent the Electrical Department in Owner briefings, safety drills, and technical reviews.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and substantial relevant experience.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership in electrical operations, power generation, or mission-critical environments.
- Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, power generation, substations, UPS systems, switchgear operations, and mission-critical HPCC infrastructure such as rack busways and high-density distribution systems.
- Proven ability to lead and develop technical teams, including SMEs and contracted operators.
- Experience with regulatory compliance (OSHA, NFPA 70E, NERC, etc.) and electrical safety management.
