The Position
We are seeking a seasoned and visionary Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and operations strategy for our Data Center infrastructure. This role is foundational to delivering scalable, high-performance environments optimized for dense compute workloads and energy-efficient operations.
The ideal candidate will be regarded as the in-house technical mechanical expert, and oversee mechanical systems including advanced cooling technologies, HVAC, fluid systems, and thermal strategies across hyperscale infrastructure programs. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, this is an opportunity to work in a collaborative team where technical leadership of initiatives will be expected to achieve high quality outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Define mechanical engineering vision for high-density compute facilities, with a focus on efficiency, reliability, and innovation.
- Lead a cross-functional team of mechanical engineers through design, construction, commissioning, and operations.
- Develop strategies for advanced cooling (liquid-to-chip, immersion, rear-door heat exchangers) and airflow optimization.
- Lead initiatives to evaluate and pilot emerging technologies (e.g., phase-change cooling, AI-assisted thermal modeling, advanced materials) that could transform future data center design and operations.
- Collaborate with electrical and controls teams to ensure fully integrated system architecture.
- Develop and enforce internal standards for mechanical design, documentation, and QA/QC procedures to ensure consistency, safety, and compliance.
- Oversee root cause analysis of critical failures and implement resilience strategies to reduce downtime and optimize system availability.
- Develop and manage vendor relationships, system specs, testing protocols, and maintenance standards.
- Implement tools and dashboards to monitor and analyze system performance metrics, enabling predictive maintenance and continuous operational improvement.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering.
- 12+ years of data center or mission-critical facilities experience.
- Expertise in thermodynamics, CFD modeling, and next-gen cooling.
- Experience with hyperscale or GPU-accelerated environments.
- Strong communicator with leadership experience
- Bonus: Experience in rapid expansion of mechanical systems to support data center demand
