The Company

NorthMark Compute & Cloud (NMC²) is backed by dedicated leadership and investment, with a clear mission as it operates at the bleeding edge of technology. Its goal is to scale and enhance the high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud infrastructure that supports its clients' research, production, and delivery, enabling breakthroughs that shape the industries of tomorrow. Its engineers build critical infrastructure to eliminate friction in scientific research, simulations, analysis, and decision-making, accelerating discovery and driving faster innovation.

The Position

We are looking for an experienced Digital Architect to own the architecture, integration, and governance of digital systems underpinning data center operations. This role is key to operationalizing telemetry, sensor data, asset performance, and service-level insights to support real-time decision-making and long-term efficiency optimization.

The ideal candidate will be regarded as the expert in technical controls, working across engineering, controls, finance, and product teams to enable a unified digital fabric that supports everything from infrastructure observability to HPCaaS cost modeling. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, this is an opportunity to work in a collaborative team where technical leadership of initiatives will be expected to achieve high quality outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant digital architectures for operational systems (BMS, EPMS, asset management, service telemetry).
  • Work across disparate groups to gather business requirements, consolidate requirements, and translate requirements (e.g., predictive analytics, maintenance workflows) into data models, data pipelines, and integration protocols
  • Develop digital roadmaps, which segment designs into implementable workstreams, solutions, features, or releases that each deliver incremental value
  • Lead integration of structured and unstructured data sources from physical infrastructure, controls systems, IoT, and business platforms.
  • Define architecture frameworks including conceptual, logical, and physical models for databases, streaming systems, and APIs
  • Own metadata, lineage, and data quality frameworks, including schema design and API standards.
  • Establish data governance including asset and metadata definitions, security, and compliance and ensure data consistency and quality across systems
  • Drive development of digital twins, predictive analytics models, and capacity forecasting engines.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally between platform engineers, sensor integrators, facilities operations system, OEM systems, and cybersecurity, among others.
  • Drive selection and implementation of cloud-native and edge data platforms supporting low-latency use cases.
  • Support transition from design, through implementation, and ultimately transition to operations and support continuous improvement

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in designing and integrating complex digital systems in industrial or mission-critical environments (e.g., data centers, smart buildings, manufacturing).Strong experience with data modeling, ETL, time-series databases, and real-time analytics pipelines.
  • Experience with telemetry/IoT ingestion, BMS/EPMS/CMMS integration, and OT protocols (BACnet, etc).
  • Familiarity with tools like Kafka, Apache Spark, InfluxDB, Grafana, and modern data warehousing (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).
  • Experience with hyperscale or GPU-accelerated environments, supporting AI/ML workloads, infrastructure monitoring, or simulation models.
  • Strong communicator with leadership and project management experience.
  • Bonus: Experience in rapid expansion of controls systems to support data center demand
